The story behind MillBuilt's factory

When people hear “factory-built homes”, they usually picture a large industrial estate on the outskirts of a city. They’re often surprised when they visit MillBuilt and find us surrounded by the forests of Toolangi.

Our factory is built on the site of a former timber mill—a place that spent decades supporting the region’s timber industry. Today, it’s been given a new purpose, building high-performance modular homes instead.

For us, that feels fitting. Rather than starting again somewhere new, we’ve continued the story of a place that’s always been about craftsmanship and making things that last. We still use parts of the original site, including the original workshop for steel fabrication, while our newer factory allows us to build multiple homes in a controlled environment.

After spending years helping rebuild homes across the region following the Black Saturday bushfires, Dan and Jamie began thinking differently about the way homes could be built. That experience helped shape the way they thought about construction—how to build better, more efficiently and with less waste.

Giving this old timber mill a new purpose felt like a natural fit. It’s a place with a long history of making things well, and today its where every MillBuilt home begins.
